Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Together we will permanently house 1,000 homeless individuals by 2013. In conjunction with the national 100,000 Homes Campaign, our local Housing 1000 is dedicated to finding our most vulnerable and long-term homeless individuals and placing them in permanent housing with the services they need to stay housed.
Our plan is based on "Housing First," a best-practices model embraced by the federal government and communities across the country.
Housing 1000 Silicon Valley, part of the national 100,000 Homes Campaign, has pledged to cut chronic homelessness in our community in half by 2013 by connecting 1000 of our most vulnerable and long-term homeless neighbors with permanent housing and supportive services. To accomplish this goal, Housing 1000 seeks to know each homeless individual by name and by face, so that when resources become available we can locate eligible recipients quickly. For this reason, we are conducting surveys with homeless individuals and families, veterans and seniors, people living in shelters and those on the streets, and need volunteers to assist in these efforts.
Housing 1000 is seeking both Team Lead and Surveyor volunteers to survey homeless individuals at site-based locations. Each assignment will be approximately 1.5-2 hours and volunteers commit to a certain number of dates in a two month period. We are currently seeking volunteers for the months of April and May.
Volunteers who are new to Housing 1000 are required to attend a volunteer training and sign a liability waiver.
Housing 1000 is the local campaign under the national 100K Homes Campaign and is a partnership between Destination: Home, the Santa Clara County Collaborative on Affordable Housing and Homeless Issues and Community Technology Alliance.
