Mission Statement

The Metropolitan Police Reserve Corps is a uniformed volunteer program providing qualified civic-minded individuals with the opportunity to assist the Metropolitan Police Department in carrying out its policing responsibilities. Members of the Metropolitan Police Reserve Corps can make a volunteer public safety contribution to their community in many ways. Reserve Officer assignments are varied and range from administrative support to the broad duties of career police officers. Reserve Officers are expected to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month, or 192 hours per year.

Description

Reserve Officers perform various law enforcement and community service functions including:

  • Assisting patrol members in their crime-fighting efforts through the Reserve Corps Focus Initiative (RCFI)
  • Assist in traffic and/or crowd control at accident and fire scenes, school crossings, street closures, special event and other locations
  • Provide additional assistance with special events, parades and demonstrations
  • Issue Civil Notices of Infractions (NOIs) for non-moving and moving traffic violations
  • Issue Violation Citations for criminal offenses
  • Serve as a Cell Block Technician
  • Serve as a Booking Officer
  • And many other duties...

Reserve Officer Applicants must be at least 21 years in age, be a United States Citizen, possess a valid driver's license and have a good driving record. Additionally all applicants must agree to a written examination, background investigation including fingerprints, polygraph examination, medical and psychological examination and drug screening test.
