Description
North Dade Youth & Family Coalition is also known as the Youth Violence Prevention Coalition (YVPC) under IRS 501c3. Started as a 'grassroots' campaign by the mayors of Miami Gardens and Opa-locka to address the wave of shooting deaths involving youth in 2006. Municipal leaders, residents, community-based agencies, business leaders and other stakeholders came together to form the YVPC. Established as a 501c3 organization in 2010, we are currently doing business as North Dade Youth & Family Coalition (NDYFC) with the ongoing mission to create a web of effective community solutions to empower and protect youth and families in North Miami Dade County.
NDYFC is a collaborative system of care is comprised of over forty (40) community stakeholders, representing schools, law enforcement, health, mental health, recreation, natural helpers, business and civic leaders and community-based organizations. We meet monthly to collectively work toward a common vision and mission centered on the family and in particularly the residents of Miami Gardens. NDYFC serves as the community coordinator of service provisions -- linking children and families to community supports that offer direct service programs where data suggests there are gaps in available services.
