Nature Trust of the Santa Monica Mountains

Located in Western Malibu, in Nicholas Canyon, the Nature Trust of the Santa Monica Mountains is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit land trust dedicated to preserving and protecting environmentally significant areas within the Santa Monica Mountains. During its first three years the Nature Trust has acquired or optioned more than 450 acres of pristine coastal canyons and mountains. Protecting sensative lands in our local mountains and carefully designing public use programs is our full-time committment. Objectives and Activities Habitat Conservation Preservation of land through acquisition by donation or purchase from willing sellers. Restoration of natural areas and watersheds through cooperative planning such as the Nicholas Canyon Watershed Restoration Plan. Assisting public agencies in acquiring additional areas for parks and open space within the Santa Monica Mountains. Volunteer trail mainenance projects. Nature Based Education Field trips for schools and other groups. Educational seminars and retreats exploring the relationships between environement, human health and personal responsibility. Outdoor Recreation Docent led nature walks through the Malibu Nature Preserve. Organized Outdoor recreational prograsm for childrin and adults that promote harmony between humanity and nature.
