Mission Statement

The National Civil Rights Museum exists to assist the public in understanding the lessons of the Civil Rights Movement and its impact and influence on human rights movements worldwide through its collections, exhibitions, research and educational programs.

Description

Location: The Lorraine Motel, site of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Opened September 28, 1991. The Museum houses 27,000 square feet of permanent exhibibtions, an auditorium, a courtyard for dramatic presentations, a changing gallery, a museum shop and staff offices.
