Mission Statement
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Description
Special Olympics would not exist today - could not have been created - without the time, energy, education, and commitment of the more than 25,000 volunteers in Illinois and more than a million worldwide! Special Olympics Illinois relies on people of all ages to help in every aspect of the program - both at the local and state level.
Anyone 10 years or older can be a Special Olympics volunteer. Volunteering for Special Olympics can create lifetime friendships and great rewards.
