Mission Statement

Rackham Symphony Choir's mission is to bring to the community the power and energy of exciting orchestra-accompanied choral works through quality concert performance. We strive to show artistic leadership by presenting innovative music of diverse cultures, styles and periods. Musical talent and contribution to the community is promoted through our music presentations, educational outreach programs, and community benefit concerts.

Description

Since 1949, Rackham Symphony Choir (RSC) has provided talented vocalists and audiences of Metropolitan Detroit the opportunity to experience choral music of the highest artistic quality. Detroit's oldest choral organization, RSC enhances the cultural richness of the community through its multi-media choral performances and extensive student outreach programs.

Under the visionary leadership of Suzanne Mallare Acton, the Choir has expanded its rich tradition of musical performance both in the scope of its repertoire and performance locations.

RSC's goal is to incorporate educational elements into each concert performance whenever possible. Initiatives have included music education programs, student presentations of socially or educationally important concerts, collaboration with student performing arts groups, and student mentoring opportunities. An Artistic Fund was established in 2007 to provide promising young singers opportunities to foster their musical growth through studies and participation in professional performances. Through this fund, a High School Vocal Internship Program was launched and internships were awarded to two students for the 2009-10 season. In the 2010-11 season, the program has expanded to include four students.
