Mission Statement

Chrysalis House is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting women in recovery from substance abuse. To provide a safe and supportive enviornment in a group setting that allows women to rebuild thier lives and become productive members of society.

Description

In 1983, three women had a dream to provide a safe and secure place for women to heal and grow during the process of recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. These professional women made that dream come true with potluck dinners, secondhand furniture and small donations from friends and family - along with the help from our corporate friends. The dream became a reality; a recovery home for women, a home that would provide a safe, structured and nurturing environment conducive to recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.

The residents of The Chrysalis House, Inc. (TCH) are bound by a strict set of rules that provide the structure they need to turn their lives around and become contributing members of society. The women attend a twelve-step meeting on a daily basis, have a curfew, participate in individualized treatment programs, perform assigned daily chores and have a job. There is a zero tolerance policy for drug and alcohol use.

We have a working relationship with several treatment centers and hospitals in the Tampa Bay area. Our applicants come to us from local centers as-well-as the Betty Ford Center and Hazelton Treatment Centers. The Chrysalis House, Inc. has enjoyed a very high success rate through the years; roughly seventy percent of the alcoholic women and sixty percent of the drug addicted women who have been in residence for three months or more have remained clean and sober. This is compared to the national rate of approx. 25-30%.

The Chrysalis House is 100% privately funded by concerned individuals and companies, along with nominal rent paid by the residents. All utilities and (basic) food are provided at no additional cost.
