Mission Statement
Empowering Development Alternatives (EDA) is a non-profit organization based in New York and operating in Uganda. EDA works to break the cycle of poverty in rural Uganda by educating and empowering young boys and girls to become agents of change.
Description
EDA's current project, Leaders of the Future, assists orphans in safely impoverished households in Jinja, Uganda, realize their full potential through access to quality secondary education and will continue to support these students all the way to university.
EDA believes education is the most important way for communities and countries to tackle the root causes of poverty; it offers the most viable options for a stronger and better future. Education can make a difference and effectively change the life of not just the individual but of the entire country.
With an Education, a student in Uganda
• Earns 50% more income
• Gains skills to become a leader
• Is 3 times less likely to contract HIV/AIDS
• Has a smaller, healthier family
There's no better way to change the future of children in rural Uganda than by providing them with an education.
