Mission Statement

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, established as a public charity in 1959, leverages gifts and bequests from many people to drive positive change. We bring people together from all walks of life to address community issues, build on opportunities and achieve measurable results. We work in partnership with others, including area nonprofits, to improve the life of our region.

We are constantly looking for new opportunities to improve the life of the Birmingham region, building on opportunities, addressing important issues and achieving measurable results. We are in the transformation business, and we welcome partners who share our passion.

We work in partnership with others to improve the life of our region by:

  • Serving as a trustworthy advisor with a variety of charitable options, expertise and inspiration for people who want to drive positive change in our community. For charitable individuals, families and businesses, we offer flexible, tax-effective options for giving, community knowledge for maximum impact in their giving, and increased opportunity to pass along charitable values to the next generation. Forprofessional advisors, we work hand in hand to help answer the needs of their clients.
  • Making strategic grants to nonprofit organizations, our important partners in improving the life of our region. We also assist nonprofits through charitable options such as our Charitable Real Estate Foundation..
  • Providing leadership as a catalyst and convener on critical issuesfacing the region where we live. The community serves as our guide to the most pressing issues of the day. Our role may vary from neutral convenor to advocate, but we always take seriously the part we play in making life better for everyone.
