Mission Statement
In an effort to link the City’s economic and workforce development initiatives, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg merged adult workforce development programs with the Department of Small Business Services in 2003. The merger resulted in a single agency that recognizes and responds to the needs of businesses and jobseekers.
Today, the Workforce1 Career Centers are overseen by the New York City Department of Small Business Services (SBS). SBS makes it easier for businesses in New York City to form, do business, and grow by providing direct assistance to business owners, fostering neighborhood development in commercial districts, and linking employers to a skilled and qualified workforce. SBS operates the Workforce1 Career Centers in coordination with the New York State Department of Labor and the City University of New York.
Description
Workforce1 connects employers to skilled job candidates and provides job placement services to New York City's workforce. Workforce1 Career Centers are located throughout the five boroughs and provide jobseekers with job matching, job preparation, and career advisement services.
