Ride Description For the first year, every other Saturday from May until October, volunteers will conduct all day mountain bike rides for as many as 10 kids from the Philadelphia area. Each ride will be under the guidance of two ride leaders who are trained in First-Aid and 1 volunteer for every two youth. Program Beneficiaries We hope to reach hundreds of young people and give them the chance to look beyond their immediate world and experience the fun and sheer enjoyment of mountain biking. Many of these children have never experienced the area outside of their own neighborhoods. This opportunity to work and play together as a team can help give them a sense of accomplishment, the ability to respect, themselves and show them that their future is not limited. On the streets, at-risk youth are faced with challenges and choices they may not know how to deal with nor have a mentor to go to help solve their problems. As a support group these volunteers can help them through a time in their lives where the family support is unavailable. If we can put a structure in place that is built on firm ground, solid principles, and just plain fun, a positive impact will be made on these childrenâ s lives. If at the end of the day a difference in one childâ s life is made, then Mountain Biking for Kids program has made a significant contribution towards improving the lives of at-risk youth, and consequently, society.
