Mission Statement

The Soul Tigers Marching Band uses positive motivation, organization, discipline, early intervention, mentoring, team building, and community involvement to make lasting impact on students that are viewed as high risk for educational failure, gang involvement, teen pregnancy, truancy and juvenile delinquency.

Description

The program improves academic achievement, increases school attendance, and supports young people's positive and healthy development while they learn to read, write, play music and work together as a marching band.

Equally promising, Soul Tigers has benefited from media exposure through televised reports on WNBC-4's 6 o'clock News, WABC-7's "Above and Beyond", FOX5's "Teen Kids News," WPIX-11's "Help Me Howard", and Video Music Box, as well as a documentary by Glamour Magazine and Tommy Hilfiger featured on the Hilfiger website. These reports, which have highlighted the music education and youth development achievements of Soul Tigers despite a severely constrained budget and the organization's needs for maintenance and growth, have attracted the attention of several leadership philanthropists whose initial gifts and enthusiasm for the organization's mission are the foundation of a partnership we hope will reap dividends for both parties. One such notable relationship is with iconic business personalities Suzy and Jack Welch.
