Mission Statement

We at the Massey Cancer Center Patient-Fffamily Resource Library recognize that being diagnosed with cancer presents individuals and families with extraordinary challenges and asks them to make difficult decisions at an especially trying time. A family's search for information about cancer is recognized as a positive way of coping with the illness. Providing understandable and necessary information is an integral part of a helping relationship, and is the basic underpinning of a patient-family resource library. We believe that it is important to assist patients and family members who want to participate in the decision-making process of their care and treatment. Our role as an information resource for help during the many phases of cancer care is a vital part of the mission. We Believe, therefore, that it is our responsibility to assist patients and families not only in learning about cancer, but also in developing new coping skills and successfully adapting to the impact of the disease and its treatment.
