Mission Statement

The Northern California Land Trust (NCLT) is a community-based not-for-profit committed to making homes and community facilities permanently affordable through the community land trust (CLT) model. With like-minded groups who support the CLT model, the NCLT strives to revitalize healthy sustainable communities and permanently increase the number of affordable homes for low and moderate income people in Northern California, regardless of race, religion, gender, ability, orientation, or any other difference, who have no access to the traditional housing market.

Description

Founded in 1973, the Northern California Land Trust (NCLT) is one of the nation's oldest and largest community-based not-for-profits committed to making homes and community facilities permanently affordable through the community land trust (CLT) model. The NCLT strives to revitalize healthy, sustainable communities and provide homes for low and moderate income people in Northern California, regardless of race, religion, gender, ability, orientation, or any other difference, who have no access to the traditional housing market.

The NCLT accomplishes its mission by building and rehabilitating properties and subsequently selling the home to trained, qualified applicants while retaining ownership of the land. Through resale restrictions in the homeowner's land lease, the NCLT ensures that the home is re-sold at affordable prices in perpetuity The NCLT has developed almost 200 units as diverse as affordable housing, non-profit office space, community gardens and artist work/live space, with a market value of over $23 million.
