Mission Statement

Quality of Life Connections is an all-volunteer, grassroots non-profit founded in 2006 to postively impact our world one life at a time. We primarily work with at-risk and disadvantaged youth (ages 11-14) in San Diego County.

Description

QOLC's premiere program is San Diego VeloYouth - an after-school cycling program held at the San Diego Velodrome in Balboa Park's Morley Field.

San Diego VeloYouth is a unique cycling program designed to motivate and empower at-risk youth, enrich their lives and strengthen our community. Working with middle schools where at least 65% of the student population participates in the free or reduced-price lunch program, SDVY works with youth (ages 11-14) in areas of high poverty and high gang activity. Students receive 18 hours of coaching and the opportunity to earn a bike through giving back (community service) and "paying it forward" (fundraising for bikes for the next group of athletes).

Coaching focuses on the motto "STARs Create Possibilities" with emphasis on Self-respect, Teamwork, Achievement, and Responsibility. SDVY promotes healthy competition, social connection, personal improvement and education. At the completion of the program, participants have set and achieved a goal, increased their self-confidence, learned teamwork and gained awareness of healthy, fun sport as a mode of transportation and exercise.
