Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Environment Erie is committed to the sustainability of our community's natural resources through watershed protection and restoration efforts and the promotion of environmental stewardship, especially among our youth.
Environment Erie, though a new organization, has a rich history in the Erie community. Formed from Earth Action and PA Lake Erie Watershed Association, Environment Erie has a tradition of preserving our environment and educating youth to continue those efforts.
The beginnings of Earth Action were formed in the 1970s by the Benedictine Sisters at Glinodo Center through their youth environmental education programming. As the organization continued to grow it move to the Tom Ridge Environmental Center where, with the help of partners and its Community Advisory Board, it was able to reach thousands of youth each year.
PA Lake Erie Watershed Association was formed in 2002 through a partnership between several key partners in the Erie region. Through initial funds from the Growing Greener program with the Department of Environmental Protection, PLEWA has assisted many partners and smaller watershed groups to meet their goals by helping bridge gaps and strengthen regional partnerships.
As they come together, they hope that the synergies and partnerships created through Environment Erie can help enrich their work and further the education, restoration and revitalization efforts here in the Erie community.
