MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of St. Michaels for Special Education is to promote and provide a coordinated, accessible system of quality services for children and adults on the Navajo Reservation with developmental disabilities and their families.
Individuals shall:
v be afforded dignity and respect;
v have options and opportunities to make choices in all aspects of their lives;
v have access to quality education, quality habilitation, training, medical care, and other supports necessary to advance their personal well being;
v have opportunities to participate in Navajo community life; and
v have an opportunity for appropriate relationships with family and friends.
Services shall:
v be culturally sensitive and appropriate;
v be efficient and effective;
v be individualized;
v be responsive to changing needs and resources;
v incorporate best practices;
v promote individual growth;
v include collaborative planning which accesses a broad array of community resources; and
v maximize all fiscal resources.
Description
We are a private, non-profit residential and day school for children with disabilities located in the Capitol of the Navajo Nation in beautiful Northeastern Arizona. Our students range in age from 3 to 53 years old and their disabilities range from severe and profound to very high functioning. Many have complicated medical needs.
We are in the high desert so we experience all 4 seasons and have access to many of the country's most beautiful National Parks. This is a great opportunity for using your nursing experience and learning about other cultures.
In addition to the Education Dept, we have a Nursing Dept, Therapy Dept (with PT, OT and ST), a Residential Dept (for our Group Home students), Adaptive PE, an Adult Day program, Horticulture, Adaptive art program, Navajo culture and crafts dept, Greenhouse and many other activities for our students and clients.
