Mission Statement

The purpose of the Ohio Community Theatre Association, a statewide non-profit service organization is to promote excellence and creativity in live theatre by providing its members educational opportunities for growth in artistic and technical aspects of theatre, and to promote community awareness and understanding of, and access to, live theatre -- alone or in conjunction with other arts organizations, educational institutions and other theatre organizations.

Description

The Ohio Community Theatre Association has 109 theatres as members that perform anywhere from 2 to 8 theatre productions in their communities with no pay, except for directors and sometimes musicians. We hold excerpt festivals each year and the winners in each region then is invited to showcase their work at our Annual Conference each year where approximately 500-600 people attend. We hold theatre related workshops, directing workshops and guide/responder availabilities for the theatres. We have also started an OCTA Jr program for theatres that have children 18 years old and under that perform in their theatres and once a year we hold an excerpt festial usually in August and the top 2 youth groups are invited to showcase their shows at our Annual Conference that is held over Labor Day Weekend, in the hopes that more theatres will start youth theatre programs.
