To be able to volunteer at the shelter, you must take a 65 hour class for which you pay either $85 or $300. The vast majority of the class is on rape or suicide crisis. About 3 hours (less than 5%) of the class were about the shelter. Finally, on day 10 of 13 days total of the class, they talked about the shelter and the rep said that they already have way too many volunteers for the shelter. WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME THAT IN THE BEGINNING, BEFORE I SPENT $85 AND 40 HOURS ALREADY IN THEIR CLASS? I had been clear from the beginning that I only wanted to volunteer at the shelter. So, disheartened, I beg to volunteer anyway and they say I can teach a class to sheltered residents . So I create one, and three weeks in a row, not one person shows up. Definitely not needed. So I cut my losses and move on. For me, it was a waste of time, money, and good intentions to try to volunteer at the shelter. But I'm still so glad they have the shelter, so good for the people who need help.
