Alpha Charitable Foundation is a charitable organization with its head office in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was incorporated in 1992 according to the laws of Canada and received charitable status the same year; Registered Canadian Charity #891257792RP0001. The Foundation was inaugurated by the late Rt. Rev. Desmond Hunt in 1993. The Foundation has since been registered as a charity in the United States (480 Elm Street, Raynham, MA, 02767), and India. The Foundation is dedicated to carrying out its objectives for the purpose of fostering and promoting peace on earth and goodwill to all. The Foundation shall carry out such objectives throughout the world, through men and women, young and old, of all religions and beliefs, who seek to demonstrate their love of God through caring and sharing their wealth and talents to assist the poor and those in need, of all castes and creeds. We in Canada are fortunate, indeed blessed, to have excellent health care available to us, irrespective of our income. The poor in India have little or no access to even the most basic care, let alone life saving technologically advanced medical care. Therefore, the Alpha Charitable Foundation has chosen as its first project the building of a 500-bed acute care Messengers of Love Hospital in Kerala, India to serve the poor and sick. The Foundation is international in nature as its goals and objectives indicate. The first phase of the project is in India and the second phase is in Canada. Bridging the divides of culture, class and religion and working together for the benefit of those in need is the goal of the Foundation. Mother Teresa, who lived, worked and died among the poor in India was determined that not one of those souls with whom she came into contact would die in squalor, loneliness or in an undignified manner and has become an inspiration to us all. Fulfilling our objectives, we also will inspire others to larger acts of kindness and greater visions. To carry out its objective of caring for the underprivileged, the Foundation is focusing on the following projects: 1. Our first project is a 500-bed acute care charity hospital in Kerala, India to provide care for the poor and destitute who have little or no access to such care. At the time of writing, approximately 10% of the pre-design and 5% of the design of the hospital is now complete. To date, a four-acres parcel of land has already been donated for this hospital project. 2. After the completion of the first project we also plan to establish "Street Kids" centres in major cities starting with a centre in Toronto, in order to provide necessary care and training to help these children reach their maximum potential. These centres will place emphasis on education, especially in health care. The trained youth will then be encouraged to provide their services to the destitute and the sick in the Messengers of Love Hospital or similar projects, and thus extend the love they received to the underprivileged. The joy they experience will in turn inspire them to become contributing members of society with a greater understanding for the plight of the less fortunate. RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE FOUNDATION To date, the Foundation has raised over $400,000.00 by way of donations and fundraising. In addition, a 4-acre parcel of land has been donated to the Foundation for the hospital project. Mr. Alex Thomas, a gifted writer in Boston, has written and produced a tape called "Sneeha Kirthanan" (In Praise of Love) and has given the Foundation the exclusive rights to distribute the tape as a means to raise funds.
