The Palliative Care Nurse assists in providing holistic end-of-life care to people who are suffering of a terminal illness. By caring for those often isolated, hopeless and fearful patients and their families, this position is a living example of God’s love and compassion for the weak, lonely and marginalized members of society. You will be working primarily off-ship visiting palliative care patients in their homes. What You Will Contribute * Support terminally ill patients and their family members through the grieving process, preparing them for death * Train and assist family members with wound care for the afflicted person * Share basic health principles with terminally ill patients and family members in order to improve their health * Encourage the use of local, affordable materials for wound care and locally available analgesia * Encourage the family to find ways to be self-supporting and teach them about planning for the future * Assist in reaching out to local healthcare professionals who care for palliative patients, build meaningful relationships, assess their practical and intellectual needs and assist them in sustainable and culturally appropriate ways, through mentoring and teaching

With so many volunteers and challenging programmatic plans each field service, the Chief Medical Officer is there to keep the whole team on track and cultivate the best possible patient journey through hope and healing. The Chief Medical Officer coordinates the physicians, surgeons, dentists, radiologists and anesthesiologists who serve with the Hospital providing medical expertise and guidance with an emphasis on improving the quality of care. Functions as the Hospital Director’s counterpart regarding medical decisions. What You Will Contribute * Provide medical leadership for the Hospital. * Responsible for coordinating and guide the medical professionals serving with the Hospital and Crew Clinic. * Provide medical advice and consent functions regarding patient care to physicians, nurses, and ancillary services. * Collaborate with medical professionals serving onboard to develop decisive medical treatment plans in critical patient care issues. Final medical authority lies with the Chief Medical Officer. * Oversees the preparation of agenda and materials for the monthly Hospital Review Board. * Assists with the review process for medical professionals applying for service in the Hospital. * Participate in the continuing professional education, in service training, and orientation of clinical staff. * Provides leadership and direction to the hospital physicians in execution of their duties and responsibilities as delegated to them. * Responsible for performance evaluations of medical professionals under their direct supervision; recommends or participates in final determination of disciplinary actions, suspensions, or terminations as applicable. * Responsible to the Managing Director and the International Chief Medical Officer timely administration and fulfillment of Chief Medical Officer’s functions, responsibilities, authority, and relationships. * Medical consultant to members of Ship’s Management regarding the health care aspect. * Medical consultant to the Hospital Director when medical knowledge or interpretation is required. * Support and assist the Captain, Crew Physician, and Lead Dentist in caring for the needs of the crew, and in maintaining safe and healthy conditions on the ship. * Collaborate with the Hospital Director and other department heads to facilitate a hospital environment that reflects core values and a commitment to excellence. * Assist and provide input to International Chief Medical Office in the development of organizational medical policies. * Responsible for implementation of organizational medical management policies onboard. * Provide feedback to the International Chief Medical Office on the medical performance of Specialty Consultants and Lead Surgeons. * Serve as member of Senior Management Team onboard. * Provide spiritual leadership for department by organizing regular devotional and prayer times. * Share in the support and furtherance of Christian community through lifestyle and exhortation. * Supervise, encourage, and coach direct reports, providing regular feedback and spiritual leadership to ensure that they and their teams are functioning effectively and growing spiritually.

Oversees the Creative Team’s schedule and workload including all aspects of writing, photography, and videography. Maintain an awareness of all the resources the Creative Team members are working on, advise the team in the production of these resources and make creative/logistic decisions for the team when necessary. The Creative Team is a mix of crew and day crew and consists of photographers, writers, videographers, and a translator. Manage the Creative Team, together with the Communications Director, to provide direction and track the workload/progress. Oversee and coordinate the JIRA Resource Request Board as work orders are approved Assign requests to the Creative Team and ensure consistent updates are provided and deadlines are met. Train and oversee the media liaisons as they schedule, plan and execute Vision Trips and media visits Liaise with the Global Brand Director and Global Content Strategist in establishing team priorities and Field Service goals. Based on their input, update and communicate workload documents and tools. Work together with the Communications team to identify potential stories and assist them with putting stories together and organizing assets. Liaise and build relationships with key personnel from the Hospital, and act as hospital liaison for the Creative Team. Represent the Creative Team alongside the Communications Director in planning, meetings, and strategy development among key personnel. Orientate all new Creative Team members and assist in training as needed. Collaborate with the Creative Team to find new and creative ways to present the message of Mercy Ships. Attend and facilitate weekly team meetings in collaboration with the Communications Director. Performs other duties as assigned by the Communications Director, e.g., going on patient home visits, transporting Creative Team, etc. Due to the ever-changing staffing levels and field service rotations, all staff may be reassigned to temporarily fill roles in other departments in a time of need.

This is your chance to take your practice onboard one of our Ships. The Lead Crew Physician coordinates and provides routine, general medical care for the crew and day crew as needed, consults on care of surgical inpatients and referrals, coordinates the emergency medical response team, and oversees the Crew Clinic. What You Will Contribute * Provide medical consultations and treatment for crew and emergency care for day crew, as needed. * Provide or arrange for regular check-ups for the crew. * Advise crew in obtaining consultations for medical problems or routine screening (e.g., mammograms, cervical smears, etc.) that are not manageable or provided onboard. * Provide after-hours service to crew and wards as part of the Duty Physician roster. * Coordinate with/supervise the Hospital Physician(s) to oversee the general health of ward patients and pre-operative patients. This includes admitting pre-operative patients and participating in post-operative rounds. * Review patients from the Preoperative, Outpatient, and Rehabilitation teams as requested. * Review chest X-rays of incoming day crew in cooperation with the radiology firm. * Oversee the Emergency Medical Team. Provide medical direction and advice for the Palliative Care team as needed. * Work in conjunction with the Captain to ensure proper health and safety of the crew. Provide documentation and reporting as needed. * Attend and participate in Hospital and physician meetings or functions as requested. * Speak at local Hospital meetings, and visit hospitals as requested. * Provide health education to the crew by presenting topics of interest or necessity at community gatherings. * Prepare for sailing - ensure compliance with maritime laws and safety protocols (e.g., Declaration of Health, complete minimum sailing list requirements, secure Crew Clinic for sailing, stock medicines needed for the annual maintenance period, etc.). * Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Company Safety Management System for the performance of assigned duties. * Actively participate in maintaining and improving quality standards of patient care.
