Mission Statement

To conserve and sustain natural areas for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future generations

Description

The Green Kirkland Partnership is an alliance between the City of Kirkland, Washington, nonprofit partners and the community to restore natural areas in the City. The City of Kirkland is fortunate to have more than 500 acres of park lands - 372 acres are natural areas such as forests, streams, wetlands and native vegetation. The Partnership seeks to remove invasive plants in city parks and plant native species. This ambitious goal cannot be achieved without the help of volunteers.

Volunteers Definitely Make a Difference
In 2011, Green Kirkland Partnership volunteer restoration events had the following results:

  • 1,780 volunteers contributed more than 8,000 hours to restore natural areas
  • 38 acres of natural areas were in restoration in 2011
  • Volunteers planted over 7,000 native plants, including trees

I came to the park on time, walk around for thirty minutes and nobody shows up. A complete waste of time.
