Suscol Intertribal Council is a community-based, 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1972 and reorganized in 1992, seeking to bring healing between the existing population and the people who historically inhabited Napa Valley and nearby counties. Since 1992, Suscol Intertribal Council has developed local educational outreach programs for public schools (K-14), community clubs, and other organizations. The organization continues to provide county-wide classes and annual events meant to bring the community together. Most classes and many events are open to the public. Suscol Intertribal Council has developed a mentorship program to help California Native people make connections with agencies, foundations, and corporations that might be helpful to them. Refering interested parties to the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) for further contact with the tribes is ongoing. In 1998, Suscol Council purchased property in Pope Valley with the vision of creating a land base for Native Americans to preform ceremonies and gatherings to keep the Indigenous culture alive. Suscol Council has partnered with the Napa County Resource Conservation District to help preserve and enhance land stewardhsip. Suscol Intertribal Council is located in the Napa Valley, believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas in North America. There is, however, no longer a land-based tribe in this county due to historical mass relocation and detrimental exposure to diseases. Once a month, Suscol Intertribal Council organizes volunteer work days at the Suskol House property. Groups come together to maintain the landscape and structures that benefit resilient Native American cultures. Suscol Intetribal Council may also have a need for upcoming event volunteers, such as for the annual Powwow or Art Auction. Click here to volunteer.

Veterans' Cemetery was acquired in 1996 for the purpose of establishing a dedicated Veterans' Cemetery. The land was developed as such in an austere setting with a sculptured Star Fountain. The Veterans' Cemetery is approximately one acre in size. Saturday Workdays: Join us for a cemetery volunteer workday on November 9, 2024, 9:00am-12:00 noon. Projects include cemetery beautification efforts such as weed abatement and landscaping projects, painting, repairing borders, restoring plots, and various maintenance work. We understand everyone's schedule varies, and you're not obligated to commit to the entire three hours. Volunteers are welcome to join at their convenience and leave as necessary. No previous experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to lend a hand. Together, we can honor the memories of those who came before us and create a peaceful environment for visitors. Don't miss out on this rewarding opportunity to contribute to our community.
