Mission Statement

For 75 years, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago has led communities in creating lasting change. With more than 10,000 volunteers and hundreds of thousands of donors, United Way creates long-lasting changes that help people become independent by focusing on the three building blocks for a good life: education, income and health. This means providing opportunities for financial stability, to help kids and youth to learn, build skills and make good decisions, and to prevent illness and address health issues in 238 communities, empowering countless individuals both through the programs that we fund and the neighborhoods that we enhance. We look not just at our community's problems, but at the symptoms of those problems. We believe that we are all connected. When a child is successful, when a family is stable, when an individual is healthy, we all win. Together, united, we can inspire hope, improve lives and enhance our community as the place where we all want to live and work.

Description

WE ARE ALL CONNECTED. When families are stable, when children succeed, when individuals stay healthy, our community is stronger. That's why United Way focuses on income, education and health -- the foundation of stable families.

OUR GOAL IS REAL, MEANINGFUL CHANGE. United Way makes a long-lasting impact by addressing the underlying causes of problems and helping people who are faced with challenges move from crisis, to stability -- to independence.

OUR VISION FOR CHICAGOLAND IS BOLD:

  • Help families earn an income on which they can thrive -- not just survive
  • Prepare all children to enter kindergarten ready to learn and keep teens on track to graduate
  • Connect people to necessary, comprehensive health care

UNITED WAY does what no single organization alone can do. We bring together leaders from government, corporations, human service providers and the community to develop innovative solutions to local issues. We leverage funding for the network of programs that -- together -- can make a meaningful, measurable difference.

TOGETHER, we can accomplish more than a single person, group or organization. United, we can inspire hope and create opportunities so that everyone can become independent. We invite you to be part of the solution.

WE INVITE YOU TO LIVE UNITED.
