What We Do
Sonnyvilla provides a nurturing, caring, and instructive environment where at risk youth from depressed urban neighborhoods participate in various enrichment activities as a means of strengthening our community.
Why We Do It
In most urban neighborhoods today, youth are prone to wander the streets unsupervised from the after-school hours of 3-7 pm and sometimes late into the evening where negative and destructive environments such as gangs, drugs, and violence present little chance of survival, much less hope
Where We Do It
Our Houses of H.O.P.E (Homes Openly Providing Encouragement) are established to build hope for youth by providing a comfortable family-style setting. The key ingredient to maximizing our effectiveness is developing these homes within walking distance of middle schools and opening them up to youth during the often unsupervised hours of 3-7 pm weekdays as well as on the weekend.
Each home is committed to equipping youth with life essential principles for daily living, establishing healthy relationships, excelling in education, gaining social and economic empowerment, promoting spiritual growth, and engaging in hands on learning activities as a team/family unit. Every day we gather around the dinner table for family time and discus critical issues our youth are facing in the community.
