Academy on Violence and Abuse

AVA is a national non-profit, founded in 2005, with headquarters in Eden Prairie, MN. Out membership is made up primarily of professionals in the health and helping professions and includes physicians, dentists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, physical and occupational therapists as well as administrators and advocates.

AVA projects include a set of core competencies that should be attained by all health professionals, an extensive resource library, a monthly e-newsletter and a monthly review of the scientific literature as it relates to violence and abuse. The Academy on Violence and Abuse encourages funding of outcomes research into the best practices for recognizing and managing the health effects resulting from exposure to abuse. AVA will serve as the focus for secondary research into the strength of the associations between exposure to abuse and lasting health conditions such as chronic pain.
