Western Iowa Tech Community College is a publicly-assisted comprehensive community college. Its infrastructure consists of a 211-acre main campus in Sioux City, two satellite campuses in Denison and Cherokee, and two learning centers in Mapleton and Le Mars.
WITCC offers education services to every aspect of the population from the traditional student to the incumbent worker. The free dual-credit courses offered by WITCC’s College Now program provide high schools students the opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school, a financial and academic opportunity proven very useful to this community. The program accounts for 18% of WITCC’s enrollment. Furthermore, the College offers General Education Diplomas (GED), Adult Basic Education (ABE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for high school and adult learners. These programs are essential to this population’s employability and the creation of a skilled workforce.
However, the majority of the College’s services are geared toward offering two-year associate degrees; transfer credits; and vocational certifications and diplomas to traditional students, displaced workers, retiring military, and mid-career changers. Additionally, the College offers numerous educational opportunities for the incumbent worker in need of skills upgrading through continuing education classes and workshops.
In total, the College has over 80 associate degrees, diplomas, and certificate programs in postsecondary technical education; 18 transfer, liberal-arts programs; and 2000+ continuing education classes serving a total of 6,421 credit students (a record enrollment for the College)for fall FY 2010.
