Mission Statement

The Wharton Esherick Museum seeks to educate and inspire visitors through the home, studio and art pieces of woodwork Wharton Esherick (1887-1970). Providing guided tours through the studio/home is our main activity. On these tours, visitors are welcome to touch the art pieces so they may experience Esherick's art, rather than simply looking at it.

Description

The Wharton Esherick Museum houses many furniture and scupltural pieces made through the wood medium. Esherick was a woodworker and a vanguard in the Arts and Craft Movement. Named the "Dean of American Craft" by woodworker Sam Maloof, Esherick's influence on craft that is functional yet fulfills the aesthetic of art is still visible today.

The Museum gives guided tours as its main activity. It constantly strives to educate visitors of the importance of Esherick in American history and art, and to inspire. We are a small Museum, that hosts about 5000 visitors annually. We hold about 3 exhibits each year in our visitor's center, including our Annual Woodworker's Competition.
