Mission Statement

Our mission is to explore the role of the artist in society and to develop models of radical democracy. We believe that consciousness can be not only influenced, but stimulated to grow, through the arts.

Description

La Pocha Nostra is a multidisciplinary arts organization that seeks to provide both a support network and forum for artists of various disciplines and ethnic backgrounds who are exploring issues of globalization, immigration, intercultural identity, border culture, the politics of language, and new technologies. We are devoted to erasing the borders between art and politics, art practice and theory, artist and spectator. In practice, La Pocha is an ever-evolving community of cross-generational, intercultural, international, and interdisciplinary artists, intellectuals, and activists engaged in the discussion of the issues of our time. We have developed an art praxis in which individuals play multiple roles and engage in concentric and intersecting circles of activity, creating temporary communities to explore techniques of radical pedagogy, embodied theory, and meaningful interactivity.
