Description

The World of the 3-Days Over 58,000 people have participated in one of our Avon Breast Cancer 3-Days since we began them only 4 years ago. It is a blossoming movement -- literally. Think of the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day as concentrated life. Accelerated life. Seventy-two hours and 60 miles into which all your hope, strength, generosity, and love must be packed like a suitcase. Three days and two nights of proving yourself, of becoming a hero to all who know you and meet you along the way -- and a walking example to the whole world. When you take the first step on the first day with 3,000 other walkers, you're making a statement. And when you cross the finish line, it is the exclamation point of that statement. An emphatic Yes! to answer every cynic who questioned your commitment. A resounding No! to every sad ending you've ever imagined. The experience is palpable, but nearly indescribable: to witness the myriad acts of kindness performed in camp and along the route; to walk beside a survivor, even in silence; to be a survivor, out here under the blue sky and canopy of possibility; to find the tears flowing and the laughter contagious amongst loved ones and new friends, in the very slipstream of courage...to read these invisible words of courage in the wind on the road, to hear these unvoiced exclamations in the steps of each woman and man, is to know why so many past participants insist, without hesitation, that the 3-Day was the greatest experience of their lives. How does this event help the cause? By helping women with undetected breast cancer find out early enough to survive. Most of them are underserved women who would otherwise not have access to education and diagnostic services. They would die without a fighting chance. Here is a chance for your steps to save lives. Real lives. Not twenty years from now, but right now. Someone's mother. Someone's daughter. Someone's friend. The mission of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is to fund access to care and find a cure for breast cancer. Your efforts will support this mission through five vital areas of the breast cancer cause: biomedical research, clinical care, financial assistance and support services, educational seminars and advocacy training, and early detection and awareness programs nationwide. Gifts are awarded by the Avon Products Foundation, Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) accredited public charity. The Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day is one of several fundraising efforts of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, a U.S. initiate of Avon Products, Inc., begun in 1993. The goal of the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade is to benefit all women, with a special emphasis on reaching the medically underserved, including low-income, elderly, and minority women, and those with inadequate health insurance. Reversing historical disparities in breast cancer care is a priority.
