Be a Visiting Companion to an older Minnesotan and help end loneliness through the power of friendship! We have over 20 older adults waiting to be matched with a Visiting Companion. We need YOUR help! Bring the joy of building a meaningful friendship into the life of an older adult facing loneliness and isolation. As Visiting Companions, you and your friend can enjoy each other’s company at home, out-and-about town, or wherever you choose based on the schedules and needs each of you brings to the relationship. Required: All volunteers and older adults must be fully vaccinated to meet in person. Exceptions may be made with our approval. Help bring cheer and smiles to older Minnesotans with your friendly voice. Be a Monday Morning Coffee Talker! Coffee Talk is a drop-in chat line that connects socially isolated older adults with caring volunteers for friendly conversation. With words of encouragement and a listening ear, you will provide callers with friendly conversation, information about community resources, and opportunities to connect them with other Friends & Co services. Callers can remain anonymous, and there is no need to register or make an appointment. Volunteers answer calls Monday through Friday from 8 am to noon. Will you be there to answer when someone calls to chat? Volunteers must be 18+, complete a volunteer application, and pass a background check. We are looking for help on Monday from 8:00 a.m. - Noon. This is a virtual volunteer opportunity with training and staff support provided. *Currently, we ask that all volunteers live in the Midwest in the CST time zone. *University students needing volunteer hours for class are welcome to apply too. If you are a talker and connecting one-to-one with an older adult for ongoing meaningful phone friendship appeals to you, let us pair you with an older Minnesotan looking for companionship and connection! These days, the phone may not be ringing as often as our older adult friends would like. Phone friendships come with the beautiful anticipation of an expected call, engaging conversation, and the joy of getting to know someone. You can be the warm, caring voice at the end of the line that ensures one older adult knows someone cares. Build a rich and rewarding connection, one call at a time.
