To maintain and protect the Appalachian Trail in Maine.

Description

The Maine Appalachian Trail Club (MATC) a volunteer, public service, organization builds, protects and maintains the Appalachian Trail (AT) in Maine. The MATC maintains 267 miles of the AT and over 40 miles of related side trails which create linkages that are of local to national in significance. The MATC is not just a hiking Club, rather a decentralized body of volunteers completes regular trail maintenance and monitors the AT corridor lands. Four Caretakers and Ridgerunners provide education to trail users, while the MATC’s trail crews build bog bridges, stone steps and other tread way improvements. Volunteer service is the foundation of the MATC’s activities, strengths and accomplishments.
