Mission Statement

The mission and promise of the Friends of Hearthstone Inc. is to restore and preserve Hearthstone, a Victorian landmark house, and to re-create a historical experience based on its Thomas A. Edison heritage for the cultural enjoyment and educational benefit of the public.

Description

Hearthstone Historic House was the first home in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity. It was built in 1882 by Henry J. Rogers, a prominent businessman and entrepreneur.

Today Hearthstone still uses the original light switches and electroliers in the home. It has been restored to 1880s Victorian Age in America, and features several special events/exhibits throughout the year as well as being opened on a year-round basis for tours.
