Mission Statement
Knox Gates Neighborhood Association (KGNA) believes in the healing power of community. Facing the violence and inequities of our 21 st century world, our neighborhood youth, adults and elders organize to create safe space and a network of life affirming support for all; in this community building effort, we learn self reliance, respect for others, and the skills to live full, cooperative, and productive lives.
To accomplish this mission, for 22 years, The COVE (Community Organized with a Vision of Excellence) has offered constructive options to Knox Gates families: after-school and summer teen programs, leadership training, and positive relationships with peers and mentoring adults.
Description
Since October of 2009 The Knox-Gates Neighborhood Association has partnered with an Media Arts organization called CTM DREAMS. This organization meets with our participants 5 days a week teaching them media arts, how to operate video cameras, digital editing, digital still cameras operations, and graphic design. At the end of each cycle we hold a showcase for the community viewing our young peoples video, photo, and graphic projects. Each age group meets separately. 2 days a week with the 11-13 year olds and 2 days a week the 14-18 year olds. Fridays are our leadership training and open recreation days.
