Mission Statement

Hanford Challenge helps create a future for the Hanford nuclear site that secures human health and safety, advances accountability, and promotes a sustainable environmental and economic legacy for the Pacific Northwest.

Description

Hanford Challenge is a public interest organization that works for a safe and thorough cleanup of Hanford. Hanford is the most contaminated site in the western hemisphere; it is where plutonium was produced for weapons during WWII and the Cold War and currently stores two-thirds of the US inventory of high level nuclear waste. Our offices are based in Seattle, however, many of our programs take place on both the West and East sides of the Cascades. Hanford Challenge takes a collaborative approach to sustainability, working with stakeholders with many different points of view to secure the long-term health and safety of the Pacific Northwest.
