Mission Statement

Cats for Life is dedicated to improving and saving the lives of stray and abandoned cats in the Greater Houston, Harris County area. Cats for Life will provide food, shelter, medical care, through local veterinarians, including spay/neuter, testing for diseases, inoculations and such treatement to keep the cats healthy and happy until such time as they are adopted to responsible, loving homes.

Cats for Life will also disseminate information to educate the public about humane treatment of animals and the vital importance of spaying and neutering.

Description

Cats for Life is a one-person run organization with a president who does high-volume rescue. The president also helps other rescuers get their cats adopted when she can. The president rescues many cats a year, and it is a very expensive proposition. Cats for Life spays/neuters these rescued cats, combo tests them for feline leukemia and FIV, all shots and deworming and then takes them for adoption at Katy Petco and Copperfield Petco. Potential adopters have to fill out a four-page application, go through an interview with the president and pay a $100 adoption fee.

I have a small base of volunteers. Cats for Life has only been a 501(c)(3) for two years and was established during the economic downturn. Getting donations during this trying time has been extremely difficult, and the president has no marketing or business degree. There is always a lack of money, and Cats for Life would love to rescue more cats than it can afford to at this time.
