Mission Statement

Nashville Inner City Ministry is a Christ-centered community organization dedicated to
empowering the spiritual, educational, and vocational development of
at-risk youth and their families.

Description

Nashville Inner City Ministry has been a staple of the non-profit arena of Metropolitan Nashville since the early 1970's. Born out of a discovery that many children within the lowest economic communities of the inner city often did not have access to transportation to participate in Christian activities, grew the commitment to provide access to all who were interested in discovering what Christianity means to man. A car turned into a van, which turned into a bus and eventually a fleet was needed to accommodate the number of children sent to our service learning centers throughout Nashville.

The non-profit grew as needs of the children, their families and ultimately the inner city community were made known. Nashville Inner City Ministry moved to add community service to spiritual service. Although we have been known by our "school buses" roaming throughout Nashville on Mondays and Tuesdays with hundreds of young faces loudly singing down the roads or our long-term work and collaborations for our homeless neighbors of "Tent City"; there are a myriad of community and youth service programs as well. Our interaction with the young has moved to developing educational and character education programming for the middle and high school aged and most recently for young adult by way of our pilot vocational training project. Youth and Family issues are explored and addressed on a daily basis. We have leaned that flexibility is key to making a difference in the inner city community.
