The purpose of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Pinellas and Pasco Counties (RSVP) is to create meaningful opportunities for persons 55 years of age and above to participate more fully in the life of their community through volunteer service. The program matches the extensive and considerable knowledge, skills, and experience of this vital - and rapidly growing - age group with the addressing of identified critical needs and unresolved issues within the community.
RSVP currently has nearly 1,100 senior volunteers providing service in more than 100 different not-for-profit agencies and service organizations throughout Pinellas and Pasco Counties, Florida, including schools, daycare centers, child mentoring and tutoring initiatives, health education programs, homeless service agencies, veterans service organizations, and other types of people-helping programs.
The primary focus of RSVP is to "strengthen the community in which the local program serves" by addressing identified significant local needs. Generally, the program seeks to address the following focus areas through its senior volunteer efforts: education, economic opportunity, health and wellness eduation, and service to veterans and military families.
Benfits of RSVP include: mileage reimbursement for travel to and from your volunteer station, accident and personal liability insurance, small death benefit while performing volunteer duties, annual volunteer recognition luncheons, educational sessions, and special and seasonal events which bring new chances for service, skill development, and personal growth. Oh, and did we mention, warm fuzzies?!
