Mission Statement

The Fund for the Capitol Visitor Center is a unique public-private partnership with Congress. The Fund is responsible for supporting the educational infrastructure of the new Center, including the development of content and the preparation of historic documents for display. The Fund's Campaign for Democracy's Front Door provides an opportunity to play a lead role in establishing the world's first center dedicated to teaching visitors about the mechanics and principles of democracy.

Description

The Capitol Visitor Center, when completed in 2005, will become the leding way to celebrate freedom and democracy for people from all over the world. The Center will enhance the educational experience of all who walk through the famous domed edifice of the Capitol. Every American's access to the "working home" of his or her representatives is a fundamental right and underscores our founding principles. But the horrific attacks of September 11th, and subsequent events, have resulted in tighter security for the Capitol building. The new Capitol Visitor Center will provide vital security improvements while ensuring continued access to this enduring symbol of democracy.
