Description

Since 1969, Seventh Avenue Center for Family Services Head Start (Seventh Avenue) has served over 4,000 preschool children and their families in West Harlem and the South Bronx. The Agency provides a free comprehensive early childhood development program focusing on education, health, nutrition, safety and mental health services to economically-disadvantaged children and their families. We partner with community agencies to provide the children with important and timely health services such as free on-site vision, hearing and dental screenings. Qualified consultants offer on-site consultation and services to children identified with special needs or mental health. In addition, our dedicated staff assists families of enrolled children with locating and accessing social services such as Medicaid, public assistance, housing and mental health services and provides assistance with identifying and pursuing educational and career opportunities. Seventh Avenue encourages parents to be active participants in their children's education by volunteering in the classroom and on trips, assisting Agency management with policy-making, and participating on parent committees and in workshops. By working collaboratively with families and other community members, Seventh Avenue endeavors to improve the lives of children and families in the communities it serves.
