Mission Statement

Greater Mount Airy Area Habitat for Humanity, with your help, provides hope to families in Surry County in the form of simple, affordable homes. Through partnerships, we can offer assistance to families who may not otherwise have the opportunity to purchase their own home.

Description

In operation since 1993, our affiliate partners with low income families to build simple, affordable homes. Since then we've built homes for 29 families.

We serve the larger community through our ReStore which opened in 2005 and accepts a wide variety of new or gently used donations for resale at 50% to 75% below retail value. Proceeds fund home building and offset operations costs of the affiliate.

We are poised to make a bigger impact on the number of families served through home building, the ReStore relocation, and expanded training open to the public. Our first furniture restoration class was small and quickly doubled with publicity. In our new location, we plan to host mini-workshops and larger classes with proper funding.

We need volunteers on the build site, in the ReStore, or to help us by volunteering to teach a class in the spring of 2011 once we're in our new facility.
