Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The mission of the Powerhouse Mentoring Program is to provide community-based mentoring to teens in foster care to enhance their successful transitions from adolescence to adulthood.
Thanks for your interest in Powerhouse. We provide one-on-one, community-based mentoring for 'teens in foster care in Multnomah County . We have a waiting list of 'teens right now and are actively seeking new mentors. It's challenging but rewarding when it's the right fit for you. Our requirements are a 12 month commitment and about 10 hours of contact time per month with the mentee. We have an initial training that takes 6 hours in the "classroom" with another about 3-5 hours involved with completing the application, interview and background check process. We then have on-going in-service opportunities on every four months as well as informal "get-togethers" every 3-4 months for just sharing/networking/etc. with other mentors. Mentors are supported and supervised by a Masters-level counselor with a background in child and family counseling. New Mentor Trainings are held every 2 -3 months. Our application forms can be downloaded from our website (www.powerhouseprogram.org) and you can also get additional information about the program there. Please feel free to call or email if you have specific questions or would like to sign up for the next training.
