Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin River Area, Inc, (HFHWRA) is a locally organized and governed affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, Before 2016 we were known as HFH Sauk-Columbia Area, and we served Sauk and Columbia counties. In 2016 we began serving Iowa County as well, and changed our name to Habitat for Humanity of Wisconsin River Area. We seek "to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action."

Description

We work to eliminate substandard housing in a three county area in south-central Wisconsin. HFHWRA:

1) partners with lower income families to build or rehab affordable homes for their purchase;

2) partners with existing home owners (especially seniors) to help them with needed repairs;

3) work to raise public awareness about housing issues; and

4) operate 2 retail ReStores (one in Baraboo, WI; one in Portage, WI) that sell gently used building supplies and home improvement items. ReStores provide people with a source for lower cost materials, and also slow down the flow of materials into local landfills.
