In the summer of 2009, families and friends of Stone County citizens with developmental disabilities began meeting because they all shared a common goal; to enhance the lives of Stone County citizens with developmental disabilities, In October of 2009, we proudly announced the birth of a new organization, CHANCES of Stone County.
Participation will be through: building friendships, sponsoring family-centered activities, leadership development, increase disability awareness, acknowledgement of ability and acceptance, success through mentorship, community contribution, civic pride.
Our VISION is through community network connections, residents of Stone County with developmental disabilities, have opportunities to experience growth and achievement in the areas of employment, transportation, education, recreation, housing and spirituality, thereby becoming successful active members of their communities.
Our PURPOSE is, 1) to promote opportunity for citizens with developmental disabilities living in Stone County to live more satisfying lives, 2) to provide programs at convenient community locations for the progression of inclusion, 3) to promote acknowledgement and acceptance of ability through community involvement, and 4) to facilitate citizen involvement through a mentor program.
