Mission Statement

The mission of the Horticultural Society of New York (The Hort) is to sustain the vital connection between people and plants. Our social service and public programs educate and inspire, growing a broad community that values horticulture for the many benefits it brings to our environment, our neighborhoods, and our lives.

Description

Founded in 1900, The Hort is committed to promoting a public appreciation and understanding of the art and science of horticulture. We are an urban resource center with the largest horticultural circulating and reference library in the tri-state area, an adult education program presenting more than 150 courses, lectures, workshops, and tours annually, and an art gallery devoted to showcasing botanical art.
