Mission Statement
Family Friends is a program offered by the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups (CWAG) in collaboration with United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Southeastern Wisconsin. The goal of the Family Friends program is to facilitate the development of long-term relationships between adult volunteers and families that have a child with special needs.
Description
Family Friends volunteers visit families that have children with special needs. These weekly visits take place in the family's home. Volunteers are carefully trained and receive on-going support and recognition from the program. During the visits, the volunteers provide companionship and support to the child and their parents. As a volunteer gets to know a family better, they may accompany the family on outings. Hopefully, over time, the volunteer becomes like an extended family member.
