Mission Statement

Literacy Volunteers regards the ability to read, write, and speak English as vital to personal self worth and healthy communities. Our mission is to promote and advocate literacy in the community and to offer literacy services to adults using trained volunteer tutors.

Description

Literacy Volunteers trains volunteers to work with adult learners in small groups to improve their English language skills. You do not need to speak another language or have an educational background. We train you in basic language learning techniques and lesson planning.

Many of our volunteers have told us that being a Literacy Volunteer has enriched their lives. It is very rewarding when a student can fill out a job application by himself for the first time, or read a story to a child.

Let us introduce you to an opportunity that will make a difference in someone's life, as well as your own.
