Mission Statement

Provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for low-income persons aged 55 and over and to offer supportive, person-to-person service to children with special or exceptional needs. The Foster Grandparent Program's focus is on the development of mutually beneficial relationships between older individuals and children with special needs.

Description

The program covers six counties in western Montana: Flathead, Lake, Lincoln, Mineral, Ravalli and Sanders County. Program requirements: Volunteers must be 55 years of age or older; retired or no longer in the regular work force; and willing and able to spend an average of 15 hours of quality time each week with children or youth. Those who meet eligibility requirements, receive a small tax-free stipend. Other benefits include: free annual physical examination, supplemental medical and liability insurance; small accidental life insurance policy; training before they begin volunteering and continuous training as long as they are in the program; meals if they volunteer where meals are served; and transportation or assistance with transportation as needed.
