Mission Statement

Manhattan Habitat for Humanity builds simple, decent and affordable homes for low-income families in our community for whom the dream of homeownership would be impossible without Habitat. The homes are kept affordable for families with community donations of labor, materials, and funding.

Description

Manhattan Habitat for Humanity builds approximately two homes per year in the Manhattan, Kansas, community with all volunteer labor. Homeowners are selected for Habitat homes based three main criteria: need for adequate shelter, willingness to partner, and ability to repay a no-interest 20-year mortgage. Homeowner's complete a minimum of 200 "sweat equity" hours on thier home along with volunteers from the community. Manhattan Habitat for Humanity builds homes within a ten-mile radius of the Manhattan city limits.
